11 young social entrepreneurs from Business Launchpad crowdfunded £37,367 from 499 supporters on Fundsurfer in April 2017 after participating in our 8 week training course.
Business Launchpad is a charity based in Tooting, South London, that provides free business support for young people aged 16-30. They offered our 8 week crowdfunding training course to 11 young social entrepreneurs who were part of 7 different socially focuses projects. Their businesses ranged from preventing drug and alcohol abuse through performing arts, to empowering refugee entrepreneurs and from giving the youth in Croydon a voice, to providing free birthday cakes for Nigerian orphans.
Participants met once a week, for 8 weeks and learnt the skills of storytelling/pitching, video making, network building, email marketing, social media marketing and PR for crowdfunding. Once their campaigns were live, we held a live crowdfunding event for them and provided ongoing support. They also provided peer support to each other throughout the entire period and after.
Since finishing their crowdfunding campaigns, participants have gone on to expand their business offerings, be featured in wider press, and continue to use the marketing skills they learnt.
Young People Insight in particular has grown from strength to strength and has expanded their work with youth in Croydon. Shaniqua, the founder continues to use her email marketing and social media skills to promote the events and business too. She has also become a go-to for advice on how to crowdfund from others in her local area which is perfect for spreading the crowdfunding love.
Good Cake Day also went on to launch a new range of caramel sauces to compliment their cakes and have undergone a re-brand after pivoting their target audience
Bubble and Squeak (who launched on Crowdfunder) went on to be featured in Time Out London and have featured in numerous pop ups in East London as well as London Design Week.
