Working on crowdfunding campaigns I get to see all the hard work clients put in so I make sure that I put a lot of attention into staying up to date with their projects to see them actually fulfil their goals and create whatever it was they set out to make. Sometimes this happens within months, but other times it takes years of persistence, resilience, and belief. Watching that journey unfold is a privilege — and a reminder of the real power behind crowdfunding.
Recently, I got to experience one of these full-circle moments. Back in 2021, a group of people, with an ambition to make a documentary called ‘Six Inches of Soil‘ reached out to Crowdfund 360 after hearing about us from a friend who had previously used our services. The idea of the film was to create a powerful documentary which followed the journeys of three young British farmers as they set out to regenerate their land through sustainable and agroecological practices. The film would not only highlight their personal journeys but also shine a light on the growing movement of farmers, communities, and activists working to transform the food system.
They worked incredibly hard to plan and launch their first campaign in 2022, raising £25,000 to kick off the project. A year later, they ran a second campaign — this time raising over £37,000 for post-production. Along the way, they secured match funding from two funds and even ranked among the Top 100 Crowdfunder campaigns of 2023.
Aside from crowdfunding, they had also been working tirelessly on the actual project… The film. In December 2023, ‘Six Inches of Soil’ premiered at COP28, and since then it’s been screened at more than 600 venues worldwide. Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to attend one of these screenings. Sitting in a room full of people deeply engaged in the story — and finally meeting one of the filmmakers I’d worked with years earlier — was a truly inspiring moment.
What struck me most was how the project didn’t stop at a film. The team has since created a book, a podcast, and are already thinking about what’s next — with potentially even more crowdfunding! That’s the beauty of it: once you’ve mastered how to engage your community and mobilise support, you can return to it again and again.
For me, seeing ‘Six Inches of Soil’ on the big screen wasn’t just about a great film (though it was). It was about witnessing the long arc of a crowdfunding campaign — from idea to impact — and celebrating the persistence, creativity, and passion that make it possible.

Here’s the trailer for the film:
